That's how it's done: With the new FRITZ!OS 7.56, the FRITZ!Box 6850 5G or LTE can make calls with a connected telephone via the SIM card. After the update to FRITZ!OS 7.56, you can use the mobile phone number on the SIM card for phone calls with a FRITZ!Fon. If you already have a mobile phone tariff with a high data volume and voice flat rate, you can use the data volume on the FRITZ!Box by booking a MultiSIM, which is usually available very cheaply, and also use the associated mobile phone number to make calls with a connected telephone. When using a MultiSIM, both the smartphone and the telephone on the FRITZ!Box ring at the same time for incoming calls. Alternatively, it is also possible to use a mobile phone tariff exclusively for the FRITZ!Box. This gives you your very own mobile phone number for your home. This new feature enables new convenience: You can make calls at home using a FRITZ!Fon while your smartphone is charging. Thanks to the DECT connection of the FRITZ!Fon, you have the best reception anywhere at home - even where mobile phone reception is weak. And in the home office on the FRITZ!Box, you can use the mobile phone number with much greater convenience than on a smartphone, since the complete range of functions of the telephone system integrated in the FRITZ!Box is now available for this. ### FRITZ!Box supports telephony in LTE and 5G networks The prerequisite for telephony via the SIM card is that the tariff supports Voice over LTE, which is now standard for tariffs for internet and data use. FRITZ!Box 6850 5G is also prepared for telephoning in 5G standalone networks and also supports Voice over New Radio (VoNR or also called Vo5G). This means that the FRITZ!Box does not have to switch to the LTE standard for a telephone call with an existing 5G standalone connection. The first providers in Europe have already announced that they will soon be making Voice over New Radio available in their network. ### This is how it works: Set up telephony via the SIM card Call in a web browser the user interface of your FRITZ!Box "http://fritz.box" and once you've logged in click on the "Telephony / Telephone Numbers" menu item. From there, select the option "New Telephone Number" and then "Mobile telephone number". Now enter your mobile number (without country code) in the corresponding field and then click on "Apply". ... and you're ready to start making calls. ------------------------------------------------------------ ## [2] More Convenient Telephony: FRITZ!Fon Learns to Speak The FRITZ!Fon gets a new appointment calendar and learns to speak. With the new "Voice" ringtone, FRITZ!Fon can now inform you about callers you have stored in your contacts or calendar entries with announcements such as "Call from Claudia" or "Leave now for the train station". ### New "Voice" Ringtone The new "Voice" ringtone announces the name of the caller, if available, or the location the call is coming from along with the telephone number of the caller. It's available for incoming calls, but voice announcements can also be selected for alarms and appointments. When you get a call, instead of a ringtone the caller's name is announced if their telephone number is in your contacts. If there is no telephone book entry, the location from which the call is coming is announced, depending on the country, along with the telephone number of the caller. You'll need to have an active MyFRITZ! account. This feature can be enabled under "Telephony / Telephony Devices" in the user interface. Select the FRITZ!Fon handset you want to edit, assign one or more telephone numbers for incoming calls, and then switch to the "Ringtones" tab. Select there the "Voice" ring tone for the corresponding telephone number at the end of the list. You can configure additional settings under "Voice Ringtone". For alarms and the appointment calendar you can select the "Voice" ringtone directly on the FRITZ!Fon. ### Appointment Calendar With the new calendar, you can now set up appointments in FRITZ!Fon and create a reminder for them. You can also be reminded of the appointment with the new "Voice" ringtone. Note: The new features are available for FRITZ!Fon M2, C4, C5 and C6 with the latest handset firmware. ------------------------------------------------------------ ## [3] Scan the QR Code and You've Got a Connection: VPN with WireGuard Support for the WireGuard VPN protocol is also new, making it even easier to set up secure connections from the internet to the FRITZ!Box home network ? for example when working from home or if you want to access your home network while on the move. With the new WireGuard Assistant on the FRITZ!Box, encrypted connections can be set up on smartphones, notebooks or PCs in no time at all using the WireGuard app via QR code or software. The previous VPN protocol for FRITZ!Box, IPSec, has also been updated by the AVM development team and now supports both IPv4 and IPv6 connections. ### WireGuard Support for Simple Setup of VPN Connections WireGuard(R) is a modern, easy to understand, fast, and simple VPN solution. For most operating systems, there are apps or programs from WireGuard for connecting single devices to a network via WireGuard VPN. WireGuard is a registered trademark of Jason A. Donenfeld (https://www.wireguard.com). WireGuard is not compatible with other VPN protocols. Therefore it cannot connect to IPSec, OpenVPN and similar peers. WireGuard itself does not contain any mechanisms for key distribution. Both parties therefore require the public keys of the respective remote site. The concept for the FRITZ!Box is that both key pairs can be generated on the FRITZ!Box to set up a connection, and all the necessary dial-in data can be imported on the client side via a file or QR code, e.g. in the WireGuard App. For your FRITZ!Box to be accessible via WireGuard VPN, you need a MyFRITZ! address (you'll need to register your FRITZ!Box with MyFRITZ!Net) or a third-party DynDNS address for your FRITZ!Box. Please note that the connection configuration ? QR code or configuration file - is not permanently stored on the FRITZ!Box (for security reasons). Do not let the QR code or configuration file fall into the hands of unauthorized persons. ------------------------------------------------------------ ## [4] More Performance in Mesh Wi-Fi With dynamic Smart Repeating, FRITZ!OS 7.50 brings more performance to the Mesh Wi-Fi of the FRITZ! home network. Users who use a FRITZ!Repeater or a FRITZ!Box as a Mesh Repeater thus benefit from higher data throughputs and more stability for their Wi-Fi connections. With the new FRITZ!OS version, both frequency bands (2.4 and 5 GHz) are used even more dynamically for the optimal connection between the FRITZ!Box at the connection and the Mesh Repeater. ### Mesh Wi-Fi ? More Performance for FRITZ!Box as Mesh Repeater FRITZ!Box devices that support "Mesh Repeater" operating mode could previously be connected to other FRITZ!Boxes or also FRITZ!Repeaters only with one Wi-Fi band (2.4 or 5 GHz) at a time. With the new FRITZ!OS, it's now also possible to use more than one Wi-Fi band for the Wi-Fi uplink. This enables higher data throughputs and stability in the Mesh. When updating a Mesh network that's already been set up with an older FRITZ!OS, which consists of one or more FRITZ!Box devices in Mesh Repeater mode, the previously unused Wi-Fi band is connected automatically. ------------------------------------------------------------ ## [5] More Operating Convenience and a Clear FRITZ!Box Menu FRITZ!OS 7.50 also refreshes the design of the fritz.box user interface and makes it even easier to read. The restructured overview page helps users find their way around even better. If you want to find out more quickly about how to use the FRITZ! products within the menu, you can get tips and instructions directly from the new online help, including a keyword search. The FRITZ!Box user interface has been visually refreshed with the new version. Particularly noticeable here is the separation of the menu from the left edge of the screen and the width of the displayed pages have been trimmed for better readability. This has a positive effect on tables and texts, especially when displayed on particularly large screens (resolutions), and at the same time improves the display on smartphones and tablets. The redesign is based on a new style guide that facilitates the integration of innovative operating concepts. ------------------------------------------------------------ ## [6] If FRITZ!, Then Smart - New Options With Scenes and Routines With FRITZ!OS 7.50 the FRITZ! Smart Home becomes even more versatile. With scenes, a range of different actions can now be called up simultaneously in the Smart Home. The new routines ensure devices, scenarios and templates with an if-then link are automatically started. ### Scenes ? Create the Perfect Mood for Every Occasion With scenes you can simultaneously perform different actions in the Smart Home. For example, with the "Coming Home" scene, all radiator controls can be set to the comfort temperature at the touch of a button, and your LED lights and smart plugs, the Wi-Fi and/or guest Wi-Fi, and the answering machine can all be switched on at the same time. The preconfigured two scenes "Coming Home" and "Leaving Home" can be applied directly. They consist of automatically generated templates that can be subsequently turned on and off as required. With a scene you create yourself, multiple devices can be combined and controlled. Templates that have already been created can be added and deleted on an individual basis. Furthermore, individual templates can be created as a simple scene. Settings for devices and/or device groups can be saved and reused with templates. Scenes can be used via the FRITZ!Box, a FRITZ!Fon, FRITZ!App Smart Home or the FRITZ!DECT 440. ### Routines - for Customizable Automations in the Smart Home Routines enable devices, scenes and templates to be automatically controlled or enabled by an if-then link. The shortcut consists of a trigger and a condition that must be met for an action to be performed. In the Configuration Wizard, you can define a device as a trigger, then specify the change in state or an event (condition). Finally, a previously created scene or template (action) is selected, which is activated when the condition is met. For example, if the humidity measured by the FRITZ!DECT 440 reaches a certain level, the previously configured scene "Ventilation" with a FRITZ!DECT 200 smart plug with a connected humidifier is applied. ------------------------------------------------------------ ## [7] Additional Confirmation After this update, additional confirmation for certain settings and functions can no longer be disabled. However, if additional confirmation was disabled before the update, this condition remains intact after the update. AVM recommends always using additional confirmation for reasons of security. To allow changes to protected settings from on the go, the TOTP standard with one-time passwords can be also used for additional confirmation. A freely available password manager or a separate app like the Google Authenticator can be used for this. ------------------------------------------------------------ ## [8] New wizard transfers all important settings for the internet, telephony, and Wi-Fi network, and connections to Mesh, telephony and Smart Home devices to a new FRITZ!Box. Please take note of the following tips and requirements: The Wizard provided in this FRITZ!OS offers assistance if you are using a FRITZ!Box that you would like to replace with another new FRITZ!Box. Any other FRITZ! products connected with your currently used FRITZ!Box, including FRITZ!Repeaters, FRITZ!Fons, FRITZ!DECT Smart Home products, and FRITZ!Apps will also be connected to the new FRITZ!Box. This new switching function makes it easier to exchange your old FRITZ!Box with another FRITZ!Box, so that - the Wi-Fi and home network and all of the connected home network devices will work the same after the switch - no settings have to be changed on the devices connected with the FRITZ!Box because of the switch - the internet connection and telephony can continue to be used in the same way - all important settings on the currently used FRITZ!Box are transferred to the new FRITZ!Box (for instance, for telephony, Smart Home, and MyFRITZ!) 1. Two steps must be taken to prepare the other, new FRITZ!Box: - a current FRITZ!OS version 7.55 or newer. During the course of the wizard you will be prompted to update your new FRITZ!Box if necessary. - Set your new FRITZ!Box back to its factory settings , if it was used at all before, and then disconnect it from electrical power. 2. The currently used FRITZ!Box provides the internet connection on your line and has the latest FRITZ!OS version 7.55. 3. If you use any FRITZ!Repeaters: Update their FRITZ!OS. 4. If you use FRITZ!Fons or FRITZ!DECT Smart Home products, check whether a software update is available and, if so, install it. 5. If you use FRITZ!Apps for the previously used FRITZ!Box, have your smartphone ready. 6. You must have physical access to the FRITZ!Box you are currently using, so that you can insert its network cable and press the buttons. The other, new FRITZ!Box should be close at hand. You will also need to connect to electrical power and the internet for the switching procedure. 7. If you are not only changing the FRITZ!Box model, but also the type of connection (for instance, from DSL to fiber optic), then the other, new connection must be ready for operation. 8. You must be connected with the homei network of the currently used FRITZ!Box with a notebook or computer (recommended) or by smartphone. Under "Wizards" in the http://fritz.box user interface there is a "Transfer Your Settings to a New FRITZ!Box" link to click. Read the instructions presented there and follow them carefully. The process usually takes around 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the complexity of the home network. ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ # New functions of FRITZ!OS 7.25 ## Mobile Communications: - **NEW** Send function for SMS and Journal for received and sent SMS (Internet/Internet access/SMS) ## Internet: - **NEW** Prioritization of a home network device can now be enabled on the FRITZ!Box user interface ## Telephony: - **NEW** Fax function: Log for received and sent faxes - **NEW** Support for the "Telekom CompanyFlex" business telephony platform (SIP trunk and cloud PBX) ## DECT/FRITZ!Fon: - **NEW** New start screen with current weather information ## Smarthome: - **NEW** FRITZ!DECT 440 measures humidity and allows its display with FRITZ!App Smart Home and FRITZ!Fon - **NEW** FRITZ!DECT 440 displays the QR code for simple connection with the Wi-Fi guest access - **NEW** Guest Access or answering machine can be switched on and off at the touch of a button on the FRITZ!DECT 440 - **NEW** Roller shutter control via FRITZ!DECT 440, FRITZ!Fon, and the FRITZ!Box user interface - **NEW** At the touch of a button on FRITZ!DECT 440 or 400, an internal phone rings and displays a message ------------------------------------------------------------ # Additional improvements in FRITZ!OS 7.30 ## Mobile: - **Fixed** Newer SIM cards from the provider Sunrise/Switzerland are no longer recognized with FRITZ!OS 7.29 ------------------------------------------------------------ # Additional improvements in FRITZ!OS 7.29 ## Mobile: - **Improved** New modem software with various optimizations and improved stability - **Improved** Increased maximum possible data throughput for downstream (now with 5G max. 1.3 GBit/s, with LTE max. 1.0 GBit/s) - **Improved** Increase in the maximum possible data throughput in the upstream (now with 5G max. 450 Mbit/s, with LTE max. 200 Mbit/s) - **Improved** More technical details about the existing mobile connection are available under Internet/5G information - **Improved** Available bandwidth with forecast value replaced if there is no or obviously only faulty AMBR available from the network - **Improved** Manual network search delivers significantly more results - **Improved** Optimization of the mobile connection setup - **Improved** SIM hotplug support added - **Fixed** With the setting 'Automatic' for the type of mobile network, the configuration of the mobile radio bands could not be changed in some cases - **Fixed** Sending an SMS leads to double entries in the SMS journal - **Fixed** In the case of entries in the SMS journal for sent SMS, no action was offered to send another SMS to the same recipient - **Fixed** Pushmail for SMS contained a preceding '0' at the beginning of the message text - **Fixed** SMS push mail containing incorrect date and time information - **Fixed** In certain situations, SMS messages were not forwarded from the modem to the FRITZ!OS ## Internet: - **Improved** List of trusted certification authorities updated - **Improved** When internet access to storage media via FTP/FTPS is enabled, the randomly preselected port number is displayed - **Improved** Pages for active device block reworked - **Fixed** Online monitor shows data rates that are too low - **Fixed** Refreshing of links for FTP access corrected - **Fixed** Display of MyFRITZ! Important information for developers of apps that would like to register with FRITZ!Box can be found at avm.de/service/schnittstellen -------------------- Initial release version -------------------- FRITZ!OS 7.25 ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------- ##Information on the Mesh Feature ------------------------------------------------------------- General information on Mesh is presented at en.avm.de/mesh-networking. ------------------------------------------------------------- **Enabling the Mesh Function** To check whether a FRITZ! product is enabled for Mesh, see the "Mesh Overview" of the FRITZ!Box (the Mesh Master) under "Home Network / Mesh". Here the products in the Mesh are designated with a corresponding "Mesh active" icon. A FRITZ!Repeater or FRITZ!Powerline adapter with FRITZ!OS 6.90 or higher installed can be enabled for Mesh in various ways: - If the product has the factory settings configured and is being connected with the FRITZ!Box for the first time, it will be automatically enabled for Mesh. - If the product is already connected, but not enabled for Mesh, it is added to the Mesh by pressing a button on the product to be integrated and a button on the FRITZ!Box. On the FRITZ!Box, use the button that initiates WPS (depending on the model, press the "Connect" or "WPS" button briefly, or the "WLAN/WPS" button for 6 seconds). Detailed instructions, additional information and the answers to frequently asked questions about Mesh are presented at en.avm.de/mesh-faq. ------------------------------------------------------------- ****Mesh for Telephony and Smart Home**** With FRITZ!OS 7.0, telephony and Smart Home are also compatible with the Mesh. The connections of cordless telephones and Smart Home products are displayed in the FRITZ!Box Mesh Overview. You can use a second FRITZ!Box as Mesh Repeater, and use telephones registered with the second FRITZ!Box with the numbers assigned in the first FRITZ!Box, the "Mesh Master". ------------------------------------------------------------- **Configuring a Second FRITZ!Box as a Mesh Repeater with the Press of a Button** Prerequisites: - Your existing FRITZ!Box supports Mesh (FRITZ!OS 6.90 or higher). - The FRITZ!Box to be deployed as a Mesh Repeater has been updated to FRITZ!OS 7.0 and you have restored its factory settings. Here's how: - Connect the port "LAN 1" of the Mesh Repeater with the Master using a LAN cable. - Initiate the Connect function on both boxes (7590: press the "Connect" button briefly; 7490: press and hold down the "WLAN/WPS" button for 6 seconds). After the connection procedure is concluded, the second FRITZ!Box is ready for operation as a Mesh Repeater. (It is operating in "IP client" mode and, as a Mesh Repeater, adopts the wireless LAN settings and other important settings from the FRITZ!Box). Please note that this function can be used only if the second FRITZ!Box is permanently connected with the first box by LAN cable. If you received the second FRITZ!Box from your internet provider, the automatic configuration of this feature might not be possible. In this case, configure this FRITZ!Box manually in the user interface as Mesh Repeater. For instructions, see en.avm.de/mesh-faq. ------------------------------------------------------------ **Transmitting the Telephone Numbers of a Mesh Master to Another FRITZ!Box in the Home Network** Once you have added an additional FRITZ!Box to the Mesh, you can configure it so that all telephone numbers are available on each FRITZ!Box. If your FRITZ!Box is connected with a landline, you can use the telephones connected to the second FRITZ!Box to make calls over the internet as well as on the landline. If the latest FRITZ!OS 7.0 is installed on both FRITZ!Boxes, the telephone numbers are transferred automatically in the Mesh once the "Telephony in the Mesh" option is enabled. If the new FRITZ!Box is already a component of the Mesh, or if you have already set up telephone numbers on it, these telephone numbers must be deleted and one of the two FRITZ!Boxes must be restarted. Then the new FRITZ!Box must be enabled for "Telephony in the Mesh". To do so proceed as follows: - Click "Home Network" in the user interface of the Mesh Master. - Click "Mesh" in the "Home Network" menu. - Click the "Mesh Settings" tab. - In the "Use Telephony in the Mesh" section, click the "Enable" link next to the respective Mesh Repeater and then confirm that the procedure may be executed on the Mesh Master as well, if asked to do so. The telephone numbers are now distributed in the Mesh and can be assigned to your telephones and other terminal equipment for telephony (for instance, answering machines) on the FRITZ!Box. Note: Telephony Mesh is not the same thing as DECT repeating, which requires the support of special hardware on the FRITZ!Box deployed as the Mesh Master. If you would like to use DECT repeating, you can purchase the FRITZ!DECT Repeater 100 from an electronics retailer. ___________________________________________________________ Instructions for installing the update: Use the update function offered in the user interface to install the update.
