Instructions for Optimum System Performance
Drivers developed
especially for use in the Windows 10/8/7 operating system are supplied with the
hardware. The true 32-bit device driver offers full support for all Microsoft
Windows features, including Plug&Play and ACPI.
The FRITZ!WLAN USB
Stick is a universal communications solution for WLAN networks. You should use
the FRITZ!WLAN USB Stick with a pentium-class PC or notebook (500 MHz
or higher). A free USB 3.0 or USB 2.0 slot (with reduced throughput) must be
available to connect the FRITZ!WLAN USB Stick.
The driver software for the
FRITZ!WLAN USB Stick AC 860 supports the following WLAN standards:
The FRITZ!WLAN USB
Stick can be used both in combination with AVM FRITZ!Box products and with any
other WLAN devices that comply with the above standards. Find out which WLAN
standards are provided by your WLAN remote site (router, other clients, etc.).
If you operate the
FRITZ!WLAN USB Stick in combination with an AVM FRITZ!Box equipped with a
USB host, you can use the AVM Stick & Surf technology. This makes
WLAN configuration especially simple and secure.
The following components
are installed with the FRITZ!WLAN USB Stick:
Note: During software updates the
transmission power of the FRITZ!WLAN USB Stick will be reset to the original
value of 100%.
The AVM FRITZ!WLAN USB
Stick is installed on your computer by means of a comprehensive installation
routine. The installation comprises two basic steps:
Proceed as follows to
install the FRITZ!WLAN USB Stick:
This concludes the
connection of the FRITZ!WLAN USB Stick.
The driver software for the
FRITZ!WLAN USB Stick consists of the device driver and the WLAN control
software FRITZ!WLAN. Both components are installed using the Windows "Add
New Hardware Wizard".
Proceed as follows for
automatic installation:
To update the FRITZ!WLAN software, proceed as instructed in Section 3.
If the
FRITZ!WLAN USB Stick is not installed automatically, continue installation
by working through the following steps:
Once the installation has
been concluded, you may establish a connection using the Microsoft WLAN service
by clicking the network icon in the notification area.
Right after the driver
software is installed, the FRITZ!WLAN control software is installed
automatically. If the FRITZ!WLAN
control software was not configured on your computer, proceed as instructed in Section 3 to install it later.
After FRITZ!WLAN USB
Stick is connected to a WLAN remote site, FRITZ!WLAN appears as a program icon
in the notification area of the task bar. If the WLAN connection is active, the
program icon will be displayed in green. If there is no active WLAN connection,
the program icon is gray. Double-click the control software icon FRITZ!WLAN in
the notification area of the Windows taskbar to open the console. The console
of the FRITZ!WLAN control software displays the FRITZ!WLAN USB Stick, the
remote site and the connection between devices. Establishing connections with
FRITZ!WLAN is always based on the same principle: search, find and connect.
For users with a USB 3.0 port on their wireless
device the option "Optimize transmission capacity" allows even faster
data transmission by using the USB 3.0 transmission mode. The activation makes
sense for access points when using Wireless AC in the 5-GHz band.
The FRITZ!WLAN USB
Stick and the FRITZ!WLAN control software are loaded automatically every time
the system starts. Connections between the FRITZ!WLAN USB Stick and known
WLAN access points are established automatically as long as a successful
connection to this device has already been configured and the device is turned
on. For details about the FRITZ!WLAN control software, see the manual
accessible in the "Service / Manuals" area of the AVM home page.
Note: To connect to a wireless
network use the Microsoft WLAN service.
To update driver software
for FRITZ!WLAN USB Stick already installed on your system, proceed as
follows:
The FRITZ!WLAN USB
Stick driver software and the FRITZ!WLAN control software are removed at the
same time. Proceed as follows:
This concludes the
uninstallation of the FRITZ!WLAN USB Stick.
For optimum system
performance we recommend activating the "DMA transfer mode" for IDE
devices like hard drives, CD-ROM and DVD drives. If the chip set is recognized
by Windows, it is generally possible to use this mode with the chip set drivers
integrated in Windows.
If the chip set is not
supported by Windows or cannot be activated after restarting DMA transfer mode,
the chip set drivers must be updated. Depending on the chip set used, the
following sources are available:
For more information on
this topic and about additional chipset drivers, see http://www.babylonsounds.com/faq/kap11.html (unfortunately, only available in
German).
The Microsoft WLAN Client
is available in the Windows 10, 8, 7 operating system.
For a maximum possible
speed of 866 Mbit/s, the 802.11ac standard requires a connection encrypted
using WPA2!
Have fun working with
FRITZ!WLAN USB Stick in your WLAN!
