1. General Remarks
The FRITZ!WLAN USB Stick is a universal communications solution for WLANs. You should use the FRITZ!WLAN USB Stick with a pentium-class computer or notebook (500 MHz or higher). A free USB slot must be available to connect the FRITZ!WLAN USB Stick.
- USB 2.0 ports or higher enable utilization of the entire range of functions of the FRITZ!WLAN USB Stick.
- The FRITZ!WLAN USB Stick can also be operated at USB 1.1 ports, but the throughput rate is reduced.
The driver software for the FRITZ!WLAN USB Stick supports the following wireless LAN standards:
- IEEE 802.11n (300 Mbit/s link rate)
- IEEE 802.11g (54 Mbit/s link rate)
- IEEE 802.11b (11 Mbit/s link rate)
The FRITZ!WLAN USB Stick can be used both in combination with AVM FRITZ!Box products and with any other wireless LAN devices that comply with the above standards. Establish which wireless LAN standards are supported by your wireless LAN remote site (router, other client, etc.).
BETA Driver Software for WINDOWS 8.1
With Windows 8.1 Microsoft changed its driver support. With the available Windows 7/8 drivers, certain Windows 8.1 Metro Apps on the "Modern UI" interface, like news, sports, and weather, cannot access the Internet over the wireless LAN connection of the FRITZ!WLAN USB Stick N, displaying the status "offline" instead. With applications on the Windows 8.1 desktop, however, Internet access is no problem when this error occurs. Due to changes in the driver interface, the familiar Windows 8 workaround of switching to the Microsoft WLAN app using the FRITZ!WLAN control software in Windows 8.1 is no longer possible. With the BETA package offered here, the complete driver software for wireless LAN operation in combination with the WLAN app integrated in Microsoft Windows 8.1 is installed, so that you can use it to establish a connection to your radio network. With the BETA software, the Microsoft Metro apps are also able to detect the existing Internet connection correctly. AVM does not offer any support for this driver software.
Note: Support for this product has been discontinued and the FRITZ!WLAN USB Stick N is no longer part of the latest product range. Development of the driver software was frozen at the level released for Windows 7/8. The drivers for this product will continue to be available on the AVM Download Server, but will not be developed further by AVM and no support service will be performed.
